What do I need to bring to the center?

- Watches, rings, jewelry
- Large amounts of cash
What if I am on blood thinners, have a history of sleep apnea, a latex allergy or a family history of malignant hyperthermia?
Please be sure to let the pre-op nurse know prior to the date of your scheduled surgery if you have any pre-existing conditions to avoid a delay or cancellation of your case.
Who needs to come with me to the center?
You must have a responsible adult (18 or over) drive you home and be able to stay with you for at least 24 hours. We prefer to have your ride stay at the center while you are a patient.
Why can’t I eat or drink after midnight?
Eating or drinking after midnight (including gum, candy, mints and tobacco) can cause you to become sick during surgery. If you become sick during surgery, you have a greater risk of developing pneumonia or other complications up to and including death.
My child is the patient, what can I do to make them more comfortable?
Bring their favorite blanket or toy. It can go to the OR to be with them as they go to sleep and be there when they wake up in the recovery room. You can also bring their sippy cup or bottle with their favorite drink to be available as soon as they are able to drink in the recovery room.
When can I see my family after my surgery or procedure?
After your outpatient procedure, you will be moved to the recovery area. When you are fully awake, your family will be able to join you. Until then, your family is welcome to wait for you in the comfortable waiting area.
If we have not reached you prior to the day of your surgery to review your medical history, pre-operative instructions, and financial arrangements, please call us at (901) 448-3900 and ask to speak to the pre-op nurse. If you have any other questions about getting ready for your procedure, please feel free to call us.
